Volkswagen has decided to give Heinz, the go-to brand for all-thing ketchup, a run its money in Heinz’s home turf, U.S.A. It is bringing Volkswagen’s Gewürz Ketchup to the U.S., giving Americans a taste of the condiment that’s been a hit with German plant employees since 1996.
The German automaker’s Gewürz Ketchup is designed to pair with Volkswagen’s currywurst, a sausage introduced in 1973, and now, for a limited time, you can snag a bottle of the ketchup for free through Volkswagen’s DriverGear portal.
This spicy tomato-based sauce, known to those familiar with VW’s secret currywurst recipe, is being shared as part of Volkswagen’s 75th-anniversary celebration in America.
It’s a rare treat that’s been smuggled back from Germany by die-hard fans, including Jamie Orr, whose tradition of sharing bottles at enthusiast gatherings helped push VW to make this U.S. release happen.
For those in LA, you can also get a taste at ChainFEST on October 5. Supplies are limited, so if you’ve always wanted to try VW’s famous ketchup, now’s the time. Just remember, it’s a condiment, not a performance upgrade for your car.
