Earlier this week, Microsoft shook the computing industry in a special keynote that heralded the new era of AI-powered PCs. The hardware announced on May 20 is not any PC with AI built-in; it is a new category of Windows PCs designed for AI, dubbed Copilot+ PCs. In other words, these hardware are designed with AI from the ground up.
Billed as the fastest, most intelligent Windows PCs ever built, Copilot+ PCs feature powerful new NPUs capable of a mind-blowing 40+ TOPS (trillion operations per second), all-day battery life, and access to the most advanced AI models.
Copilot+ PC sees what you see on your PC; when you forget something you saw on the device, you can search with cues you remember. It is kind of like Mac’s Spotlight Search and Time Machine combined but way more intelligent. This feature is aptly called Recall.
Copilot+ PCs can generate and refine AI images in near real-time on the device using Cocreator and can execute instant translation with Live Captions, which can translate audio from over 40 languages into English.
And then there is, of course, your personal all-powerful AI agent which includes GPT-4o that allows you to have voice conversations that feel more natural with the machine.
The new Copilot+ PCs include Microsoft Surface and machines from partners like Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung.
As far as the new Microsoft Surface Copilot+ PC goes, it is a sleek laptop with super thin bezels with a 13.8” or 15” touchscreen display, an AI-enhanced camera, premium audio, a haptic touchpad, and up to 20 hours of battery life.
There is also a Surface Pro which is a 2-in-1 laptop with an optional HDR-capable OLED display, and ultrawide FoV camera.
Also introduced is a new Surface Pro Flex Keyboard, the first 2-in-1 keyboard that is designed to be used both attached or detached. It promises enhanced stability and has Surface Slim pen storage and charging integrated seamlessly, and a haptic touchpad.
The new Copilot+ PCs from Microsoft, Acer, ASUS, Dell, HP, Lenovo, and Samsung, are available for pre-orders starting May 20 with a starting price of US$999, and availability starting on June 18.
