What’s your impression of a plush toy? Fluffy? Good for cuddling, and absolute trash in any possibility of posability? Not to belittle a plush toy here, but perhaps cuddly and being floppy is good for Teddy. Teddy (Mr. Bean’s teddy bear). However, it will not do justice to an obnoxiously lovable teddy like Ted.
Thankfully, there is justice and it was brought about by a collaboration between POPMART and fellow toymaker Gong. Fans of a not-floppy, not-cuddly teddy bear, please meet POPMART x Gong Ted 2 Ted [CH].
The 1/2 scale, 30 cm (about 12 inches) tall Ted you see here is no ordinary Teddy bear. It has a poseable structure within that allows dear old Ted to pull off iconic poses. Throw in accessories like a smartphone and beer bottle, and Ted is ready for business to be himself.
The smartphone and the beer bottle magnetically attach to Ted’s digit-less hands, and while most—if not all—plush toys have fixed expressions, this posable plush toy has expressions. The eyebrows are magnetically attached too, allowing you to change Ted’s expression from sad to angry, and anything in between.
Moreover, the muzzle is magnetically attached too, letting you switch the mouth’s shape to create even more expressions. Finally, poseable plush Ted here is supplied with two getups: a necktie, and a red apron to recreate the supermarket scene from Ted 2.
The POPMART x Gong Ted 2 Ted Posable Teddy Bear is available in China markets for just 299 yuan [CH] (about US$41 today). I believe you can order this from major toy retailers like Bombusee. Though I am not exactly sure how much.
