This is it. The 8th-generation Porsche 911 finally shows its face and boy, it is the beauty you have known up to this point, but felt somewhat a little on the plumb side. At least, that’s my first impression. The ride was unveiled on the 28 in California, in Petree Hall at the LA Auto Show. I know. Many people are excited, but lets not let things get carried away. In other words, lets not get suck into the marketing mambo jambo and hit straight into what it has to offer.
First off, the 2019 Porsche 911 has a next-generation flat-six turbocharged engine that puts as much as 450 PS (443 horses) and turn out 530 Nm (39l lb-ft) of torque, mated to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission that enables it to rocket from naught to 60 in 3.5 seconds, before topping out at 308 km/h (191 mph, or 306 km/h/190 mph for the Carrera 4S all-wheel-drive model).
Other details include Porsche Wet mode, Night Vision Assist with thermal imaging camera, comprehensive connectivity that “uses swarm intelligence,” massive 20 inch wheels front and even larger 21-inch wheel at the rear, LED headlights, flush integration of electrical pop-out handles (on the doors), electronic holding side mirrors, and completely redesigned interior featuring a 10.9-inch touchscreen monitor that is the heart of Porsche Communication Management.
True 911 fans would be glad that there is a dock-on control panel of five buttons that mimics the look of a classic toggle switch.Obviously, there are a lot more to it than the few hundreds words, but we shan’t bore you with other marketing talks.
