I should’ve told you about this beautiful, powerful Honda when it dropped last November. It’s the 2025 Civic Type R Sports Sedan. We last checked it out in 2022 for the 2023 model, which nailed the look. We didn’t dive into the specs and features back then—so let’s fix that now since the 2025 version is basically the same. Though we cannot say the same for the price. More on that in a bit.
Under the hood, the FL5 Civic Type R packs a 2.0L (1,996cc) inline 4-cylinder 16-valve DOHC VTEC turbocharged motor, producing a healthy 315 horsepower and 310 lb-ft (420 Nm) of torque. It’s paired with a six-speed stick-shifter with rev-match and a limited-slip differential, enabling this family-friendly performance car to do 0–60 mph in 5.3 seconds. Not mind-blowingly quick, but faster than most non-electric rides on today’s roads.
I don’t believe a top speed number was published. But what the hell—are you buying this car to set a land speed record?
Some of the key features include a lightweight single-mass flywheel, helical LSD, integrated LED shift light indicator, Dynamic Drive Modes, Active Sound Control, dual-axis MacPherson strut front suspension, multi-link rear suspension, adaptive damper system, dual-pinion variable-ratio electric power steering, power-assisted ventilated two-piece front disc/solid rear disc brakes, Brembo 4-piston aluminum front brake calipers, 19 x 9.5J matte black wheels wrapped in 265/30/ZR19 93Y Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires, and a full suite of Honda safety and driving assist features.
In the creature comfort department, it’s got a 9-inch color touchscreen, a 10.2-inch digital instrument cluster, a Bose premium sound system with 12 speakers (including subwoofer), Honda Satellite-Linked Navigation System, support for Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and more.
The new 2025 Honda Civic Type R Sports Sedan is available now with a starting MSRP of US$45,895. If anyone’s tracking, that is a 3 grand price bump.
