The real-life Smartphone Rotom aka the Rotom Phone from Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, and Pokémon Scarlet and Violet is cool and all. But know what is cooler? A Rotom Phone with a larger screen that trains you to become a true Pokémon expert. Well, folks, those are exactly what the Pokémon Rotom Pad is.
The Takara Tomy Pocket Monsters “You too can be a Pokémon Professor! Smartphone Rotom Pad” [JP] takes you on an immersive Pokémon research mission. By exploring maps and searching for Pokémon, you can challenge various missions, using sounds to lure them, sorting them by type, breaking rocks, and interacting with the pen.
Completing these missions allows you to register the Pokémon in your Pokémon Zukan. Along the way, you’ll meet familiar faces like Liko and Roy and deepen your knowledge of the Pokémon world.
With the Camera feature, you can snap pictures and use the Edit function to add personal touches, creating unique images. The “Battle and Catch Poké Ball” (sold separately) adds an exciting dimension: scanning the barcode with your Rotom Pad camera unlocks detailed Zukan descriptions of the Pokémon you’ve captured.
The Rotom Pad also offers Pokémon Battle mode, where you can battle with registered Pokémon and enjoy the “Berries Presents” feature. Additional learning experiences include Professor Friede’s Pokémon Seminar, the Pokémon Zukan Quiz, and the Type Guide, all designed to help you expand your Pokémon knowledge.
Pokémon from the Paldea region, along with Legendary and Mythical Pokémon, make appearances as well. Adding to the experience, Daiki Yamashita, the voice of the Smartphone Rotom from the TV anime, narrates the Pokémon entry information, bringing the world of Pokémon to life.
The Takara Tomy Pokémon Rotom Pad was launched in July for 12,100 yen (about US$85).
