LEGO Mural at the National Museum of Singapore

If you’ve ever looked at a shophouse and thought, “This needs more LEGO,” well, Singapore’s got you covered. To celebrate SG60, the LEGO Group has partnered with the National Museum of Singapore to create a massive LEGO mural—and we mean really massive. Built using 265,743 bricks, the mural features a nostalgic row of colourful shophouses straight out of the swinging ’60s, minus the lava lamps.

It’s officially the largest LEGO mural in the country, now proudly recognised by the Singapore Book of Records. And to make things even more festive, visitors can literally leave their mark by helping place the final bricks. That’s right: your legacy could be a tiny 2×2 square somewhere near a toy kopi tiam.

The mural is just one part of the “Stories of Singapore: Building Our Heritage, Brick by Brick” showcase running from 18 July to 9 August. Expect giant LEGO renditions of local icons like the Changi Airport Control Tower, bumboats along the Singapore River, and a towering 3D HawkerMan. Also on the menu—quite literally—are intricate builds of local faves like chilli crab, Hainanese chicken rice, and the breakfast of champions: kaya toast with soft-boiled eggs (sans real yolk explosions).

You’ll also find LEGO creations by CDAC students, and yes, you can even take part in a Make & Take activity to build your own Mini LEGO Orchid—just the thing to put on your desk when the kopi kicks in.

So if you love history, bricks, or just enjoy pointing at tiny plastic food, make your way down. It’s one national birthday party where you won’t leave empty-handed—or empty-handed and covered in icing.

For anyone interested, the National Museum of Singapore is located at 93 Stamford Road, Singapore 178897. It opens daily from 10 AM to 7 PM. The said event is located at Stamford Gallery, Level 1 (a.k.a. ground floor). Hit up the official website for the latest updates and opening hours.
