Seiko Put Honda’s Trunk-Sized Motocompo Scooter on Your Wrist

Collaborations between watchmakers and automakers aren’t new, but Seiko’s latest partnership with Honda takes a different route. Rather than tying into a specific car model or motorsport heritage, it draws inspiration from the Honda Motocompo—a compact, lifestyle-focused scooter originally designed to fit neatly into the luggage compartment of the Honda City. Meet the new Seiko 5 Sports Motocompo Collaboration Limited Edition Model [JP].

Based on the Seiko 5 Sports Field series, the watch squeezes the Motocompo’s unmistakable styling into a compact 36.4 mm black-coated stainless steel case. The yellow dial recreates the scooter’s bodywork and black stripe, complete with a Honda logo, while the “AUTOMATIC” lettering borrows its typeface from the Motocompo logo.

Seiko has carried the theme into wonderfully specific territory. The crown is marked “TURN” after the scooter’s fuel valve, while the nylon strap features “CARRYING POINT” and “INSERTION POINT” markings inspired by the attachment points used when securing the Motocompo inside a car. Subtle it is not, but that is precisely the point.

Inside ticks Seiko’s automatic 4R36 movement with manual winding, 24 jewels, and approximately 41 hours of power reserve. Other specifications include curved Hardlex crystal, 100 m water resistance, and a 12.5 mm case thickness.

The caseback bears a Motocompo silhouette, “Limited Edition” lettering, and an individual serial number. It even arrives in packaging modeled after the cardboard boxes used to ship the original scooter.

Limited to 8,000 pieces worldwide, including 1,200 for Japan, the Seiko 5 Sports Motocompo Collaboration Limited Edition Model launches on September 5 for 52,800 yen [JP] (about US$360). It might be the perfect watch for Honda City owners with this super dope trunk motorcycle.
