Apple HomePod mini 2
Six years is a long wait for a second-generation gadget, even one that spends its life sitting on a shelf. Apple’s HomePod mini 2 gives the little speaker new duties, from Mac audio to four-speaker movie nights. It also gets a music-reactive light show, with Siri AI joining through a later update.

The Apple HomePod mini introduced six years ago gets a next-generation model. Six years! With another brand, you’d believe it was never going to have a follow-up, but not Apple, clearly.

We even covered its new colors in 2021. This time, there’s more happening beneath the mesh.

The HomePod mini 2 packs Apple’s S10 chip, using computational audio to optimize its 360-degree sound. Four can team up with the fourth-generation Apple TV 4K for automatically calibrated surround sound. It can also serve as the default speaker for Macs with Wi-Fi 6E or later.

Up top, Sound Glow pulses with the music, drawing colors from album artwork. Your little speaker now has its own light show.

Siri AI arrives through a future update, offering conversational assistance and personal-context features. Setup requires an Apple Intelligence-enabled iPhone or iPad. Voice recognition supports up to six household members, while home-hub duties include accessory control and automations.

Available in pink, green, blue, white, and midnight, the HomePod mini 2 is up for preorder at US$149, with availability beginning October 30, 2026. Six years later, even the price has grown.
