Black Shark Gaming Tablet with 8.8-inch display and futuristic mecha-style rear design

Black Shark is making a comeback. After withdrawing from the gaming phone market years ago, the brand continued operating by selling accessories like cooling fans for gaming, smartwatches, and even energy drinks. Now, it looks like it has decided to dabble in the gaming hardware space again, starting with a pocket-friendly tablet. Well, if you have a pretty large pocket, that is.

Simply called the Black Shark Gaming Tablet, the 8.8-inch ultra-portable is joining the now crowded gaming tablet and handheld console market with a 144 Hz Widevine L1-certified 2.5K display at 2,560 × 1,600 resolution and 343 ppi. Powering the device is Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, paired with 12 GB of LPDDR5X RAM and 256 GB of UFS 4.0 storage, expandable up to 2 TB via TF card. Keeping it alive is a 7,300 mAh “Mega Battery.”

Despite the specs, Black Shark is keen to remind everyone that this thing is meant to travel. It tips the scales at just 332 g and measures only 7.7 mm thick. Aesthetically, the back of the slab features the once-familiar panel lines that give it a distinctly mecha, futuristic vibe. The chassis is crafted from aerospace-grade aluminum alloy and finished using laser processing.

Cooling, unsurprisingly, is a big deal here. The tablet boasts a large VC heat dissipation plate, multiple graphene sheets, and a metal cooling structure, adding up to a total thermal area of 25,176 mm². On top of that, it comes with a magnetic case that allows users to attach Black Shark’s magnetic cooler, further boosting thermal performance.

As a gaming tablet, it also features a dedicated Game Mode that silences calls, messages, and other distractions, while allowing the processor to run at its full potential. In the audio department, it benefits from a K9 Smart Amplifier driving symmetrical dual speakers with support for 3D spatial audio, letting you hear in-game details more clearly.

And yes, it also has Google Gemini AI on board, assisting with strategy exploration, streaming, and more. Imaging duties are handled by a 13 MP rear-facing camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera. That’s not all. It even includes DisplayPort support, allowing users to stream games, movies, and other content in 4K for times when an 8.8-inch screen does not cut it.

Connectivity is handled by dual-band Wi-Fi 6 with 2×2 MIMO and dual antennas for reliable wireless performance, along with Bluetooth 5.4. The Black Shark Gaming Tablet is set to launch soon. Pricing, however, remains under wraps. The good news is that it appears to be heading for a global release, as hinted at by its global website.
