LEGO is great, but even the mighty Danish brick empire can’t cover every car-loving brickhead’s needs. Thankfully, there are LEGO-compatible alternatives, and one standout is CaDA, a brand under DOUBLEE Ltd., which seems to be on a speed run with officially licensed sets. The latest additions to its growing fleet of small-scale brick-built super rides—including the Maserati GT2 and Mazda 787B—are the 1:24 Audi R8 Coupe 2019 and the 1:20 Shelby GT350H.
CaDA 1:24 Audi R8 Coupe 2019
Using just 199 pieces, CaDA has managed to recreate the legendary super sports car surprisingly well. I say “surprisingly” because, at 1:24 scale, no set is going to perfectly replicate the real thing. Still, even if the completed model looks like a slightly pixelated version of the R8, it’s instantly recognizable. The standout feature? Printed parts. That’s right—no decals to ruin your day. Everything, including the Audi logo, is printed directly onto the bricks. The car features a steerable wheel (though not linked to the front wheels) and can roll freely forward and back. When built, it measures 14.5 cm (5.7 in) long, 7.2 cm (2.8 in) wide, and 4.2 cm (1.7 in) tall.
CaDA 1:20 Shelby GT350H
This officially licensed brick-built beauty pays tribute to the legendary 1966 Shelby GT350H. Notably, “Mustang” is missing from the product name, which makes me suspect CaDA didn’t secure rights with Ford. But honestly, who cares about Ford when Shelby is in the room? Ford who? Moving on… Unlike the R8, this one is slightly larger at 1:20 scale and measures 21.2 cm (8.3 in) long, 9.3 cm (3.7 in) wide, and 6.5 cm (2.6 in) tall. The size bump isn’t just for show—it’s a fully functional remote control car. As usual, CaDA offers two control options: a 2.4 GHz remote or an app that lets you program movement using Scratch drag-and-drop coding. The model sports the iconic black-and-gold color scheme, complete with the Shelby Cobra logo on the front grille.
Pricing and Availability
The CaDA 1:24 Audi R8 Coupe 2019 and 1:20 Shelby GT350H have launched in China and are available from CaDA’s official store on Tmall.com for 69 yuan [CH] (~US$9.50) and 135 yuan [CH] (~US$19), respectively.
