Chinese brick-building toy maker CaDA is seriously on a roll—especially in the model toy cars department. Joining iconic cars like the Audi R8 Coupe, Maserati GT2, Fiat 131 Abarth, the Mazda 787B (#18), Citroën C4 WRC, and more, are two more legends of their time: the Renault 5 Maxi Turbo and Renault Sport RS.01.
Presented in 1:24 scale, CaDA has faithfully recreated the legendary WRC Group B race car from the 80s, and the product during Carlos Ghosn’s era that has European supercar styling but with the “heart” of a Japanese, a.k.a. the 3.8L V6 twin-turbocharged engine from the GT-R line.
There is really not a lot to say about it. These tiny brick-built toys are as accurate as standard elements would allow. But man, I have gotta say the 5 is really spot-on. Perhaps it was the squarish design that made it perfect as a brick-built toy.
The CaDA 1:24 Renault 5 Maxi Turbo recreates the iconic round headlights, as well as the bank of auxiliary lights. It boasts special molded parts for the wheels, replicating—as far as it could—the original rally wheels. I only wish they were in white. But hey, at least it has the deep-dish design nailed. The model is complete with a roof antenna and, of course, the signature red and blue colorway.
The CaDA 1:24 Renault Sport RS.01 features a meticulously recreated front, including printed elements to create the futuristic headlamps. It further touts realistic wheels, the signature huge spoiler, and a detailed interior complete with the race car steering wheel and center console.
The CaDA 1:24 Renault 5 Maxi Turbo packs 308 pieces, and when completed, the model measures 14.8 cm (5.8 in) long, 7.2 cm (2.8 in) wide, and 5.4 cm (2.1 in) tall. Meanwhile, the CaDA 1:24 Renault Sport RS.01 has 271 elements and measures 15.9 cm (6.3 in) long, 7.2 cm (2.8 in) wide, and 4.3 cm (1.7 in, including the spoiler) when completed. Also, in the good tradition of CaDA, where there are graphics, they are all printed elements.
The CaDA 1:24 Renault Sport RS.01 has been launched in China for just 69 yuan [CH]* (US$9.70). As for the CaDA 1:24 Renault 5 Maxi Turbo, the price will be revealed when it becomes available at the end of October.
