We suddenly realized there is a possibility that Insta360’s dabbling in handheld gimbal cameras may have been a response to DJI’s entrance into the 360° imaging space last year. The latter is kind of Insta360’s thing, while handheld gimbal cameras are DJI’s turf. It certainly feels like a quiet declaration of tit-for-tat product warfare.
Anyhoo, DJI isn’t letting up. It has followed up its first 360° camera with the DJI Osmo 360 II, announced in China last month before making its global debut at IFA 2026.
As before, DJI brings glorious, eye-popping 8K resolution to the 360 imaging table. A 1-inch 360° imaging field and high-performance processor enable native 8K/60fps footage, while 14.5 stops of dynamic range and AI SuperNight 2.0 promise stronger detail across highlights, shadows, and dimly lit scenes.
The Osmo 360 II [CH] also gains Subject Tracking, which uses AI to recognise and keep the star of the video centered even when the camera is being waved around like an enthusiastic concert glow stick. NFC enables tap-to-connect pairing, while AI-powered one-tap editing helps turn recorded chaos into something presentable.
Other tricks include 120-megapixel panoramic photographs, 16K panoramic time-lapses, 8K/120fps Time Freeze footage, and up to 64× panoramic slow motion. All video modes support 10-bit colour and D-Log M, so colour graders can spend several hours adjusting footage that took 30 seconds to record.
Aesthetically, it shares a similar design with the first-generation camera. However, its ultra-hard, scratch-resistant lenses can now be replaced by the user. There is also 105 GB of built-in storage for when your microSD card is full, missing, or still sitting inside your laptop.
The 183-gram (6.5-ounce) camera is waterproof to 10 metres (33 feet) without a case and can record 8K/30fps video for up to 100 minutes.
In China, the Standard and Adventure Combos are available for 3,299 and 3,999 yuan [CH], respectively (~US$463 and US$561). International sales begin September 15, with the Standard Combo priced from €589 in Europe and £509 in the UK. The Adventure Combo costs €739 or £639. Australian pricing starts at AU$921, while an official US release remains unconfirmed.
