If I told you there is a vehicle that weighs 1,100 kilograms (2,425 lbs), puts out 1,100 horsepower, has a top speed of 350 kph (217 mph), and does 0-100 (0-62 mph) in just 2.5 seconds, you’d think it is a supercar. That vehicle is Engler Desat and it is not a supercar.
Even though at a glance, the Engler Desat does look like a supercar from the front and the rear, and is complete with sports wheels wrapped in low profile tires. The illusion of a supercar is broken by a single quad bike/motorcycle seat in the center and the unmistakable handlebar.
So, yeah, believe it or not, this little big guy you see here is a quad bike. And also yes, it does produce 1,100 horses – thanks to the 5.2L V10 supercar engine under the hood. It indeed has a top speed of 217 mph and swipes the century sprint in mere 2.5 seconds, and with a curb weight of 1,100 kilograms, the Engler Desat just got itself enrolled into the exclusive 1/1 power-to-weight ratio club.
Unlike the Lazareth Wazuma V8F which merely uses a supercar engine, the Engler Desat has true supercar specs which makes it the world’s first superquad. In fact, it should really qualify as an exotic hyperquad. This superquad is no ordinary-size quad bike too. It measures a car size of 4,670 mm long and has an automobile-size wheelbase of 2,650 mm. The only thing that does not scream it is a car is the width.
The Engler Desat is the brainchild of the founder of Engler Automotive Ltd, Victor Engler who has always wanted to engineer something that has a new and exciting driving experience. Well, I guess Vic did it. I am pretty sure going at 200+ mph on a quad with only a helmet for protection is definitely a new and exhilarating experience. And in the process of doing so, Vic sure turns a lot of heads.
Engler is a Slovakian automobile company that debuted this head-turner at the Blenheim Palace for Salon Privé last year. It is unclear when it will be available to buy and for how much. But one thing for sure is, it ain’t going to be cheap. I mean, it is a Superquad, after all, isn’t it?
