Gatchaman II G-1 Eagle Sharp by Ramen Toy

The year 2025 is going full nostalgia overload for toy collectors. Alongside The Loyal Subjects reviving the M.A.S.K. toy line, Singapore-based Ramen Toy is bringing back a slice of ’70s sci-fi anime history: Science Ninja Team Gatchaman. And this time, it’s officially licensed—which is a refreshing twist from a company better known for bootlegs and parody toys.

Blessed by Tatsunoko Production, Ramen Toy has unveiled the G-1 Eagle Sharp from Gatchaman II, which aired from October 1, 1978, to September 23, 1979. In case anyone’s wondering, the original Gatchaman saga had three seasons: Science Ninja Team Gatchaman (1972–1974), Gatchaman II (1978–1979), and Gatchaman Fighter (1979–1980).

Ramen Toy shared the news on social media a week ago, and today, word is that the model has received final approval. Here’s what we know about this nostalgia-powered collectible: it’s a 1:24 scale ABS model with concealed landing gear compartments that open to reveal die-cast metal landing gear. Like the good ol’ toys of the ’70s and ’80s, it comes with a firing projectile—specifically, the Eagle bomber missile.

Other cool features include light-up thrusters and deployable combat wings—triggered by sliding the weapon bay on the underbelly, which transforms the craft into a kind of X-wing-style fighter. Speaking of the weapon bay, it opens up to reveal the G-1 Eagle Sharp’s signature weapon: the bird missile. It’s removable, though non-firing, so no surprise attacks on your cat.

There’s also a removable transparent cockpit canopy. Unfortunately, though, it doesn’t slide open like in the anime, but you can swap it out with a smaller piece to simulate the open state.

Inside, you’ll find a highly detailed cockpit with the iconic “G” logo on the flight yoke and a flight seat. Oh, I think we have missed out on another iconic weapon. In addition to the firing Eagle bomber missile and the non-firing bird missile tucked inside the weapon bay, the G-1 Eagle Sharp also features the cutting wing nose, used by Ken Washio a.k.a. the Eagle to slice enemy aircraft wings mid-flight. It doesn’t deploy like in the anime, though; instead, you swap in a separate piece to show it in action.

Rounding out the package is a 3-inch action figure with 10 points of articulation and a flight stand. Ramen Toy is targeting pre-orders for this summer and aiming for a release by year’s end.

As a longtime fan of Gatchaman—especially the second and third seasons, which I first watched on local TV—this one hits close to home. Here’s hoping the rest of the team’s vehicles (and a proper New God Phoenix) are in the works. Fingers crossed.
