It looks like Insta360 is backtracking with its product strategy. DJI thought one camera wasn’t enough for its handheld gimbal camera, the Osmo Pocket series, and gave it two cameras with the Osmo Pocket 4P. Insta360, on the other hand, launched a dual-camera gimbal first—the first handheld gimbal camera from the brand—and then launched a single-camera version called the Leica Luna Pro.
Also co-engineered with Leica, the Leica Luna Pro [CH], the newest addition to Insta360’s gimbal camera family, features a Leica 1-inch 8K camera and supports 8K Dolby Vision and 4K 120 fps slow-motion video recording.
The greatest feature for vloggers is perhaps the 4K 60 fps soft-focus portrait video, which lets you record ready-to-share beauty videos with multiple adjustable beautification levels. So, you’ll feel at home facing this little guy as you would using the Douyin app on your phone.
The device lets you produce vlogs and whatnot in 4K. Plus, it boasts 4× high-resolution zoom, 4× macro for extreme close-ups, and support for the 10-bit I-Log professional video-recording format.
If that’s not enough, it is determined to relegate your phone to communication and internet duties by also assuming Live Photo duties. This camera touts a 37 MP sensor with an ultra-large f/1.8 aperture, 14-stop dynamic range, and a 20 mm-equivalent focal length.
What these specs mean is that it can gather plenty of light when needed, preserve more detail in both bright highlights and dark shadows, and offer an ultra-wide field of view useful for landscapes, architecture, group photos, and fitting more into the frame.
Like the Luna Ultra, its 2-inch OLED display with an integrated remote is detachable, allowing for remote framing, remote control, and more. It has a three-axis gimbal and features smart tracking and quick focusing to ensure subjects remain in focus.
And when night falls, dual AI chips ensure night scenes pop. It features a dedicated imaging chip to minimize image noise for cleaner night shots, along with a flagship Qualcomm 4 nm processor. Together, they have both performance and power efficiency covered. And yes, you can totally capture night scenes in 4K 60 fps.
In addition, the Luna Pro records sharp, full-screen vertical video in 4K at 30 fps using 6K oversampling—all you have to do is rotate the screen and start filming for social media.
The new Luna Pro further features an anti-wind design that removes wind noise for clearer audio. It is outfitted with a 1,550 mAh battery, good for up to four hours of operation between charges, and supports quick charging, with 23 minutes of charging yielding 80% battery.
It has internal storage, too. The device itself rocks 47 GB of storage and supports up to a 2 TB SD card, which is not included.
The Insta360 Luna Pro Gimbal Camera has been launched in China with a starting price of 3,399 yuan [CH].
