LEGO Star Wars Battle Droid with STAP (75428)

As a Star Wars purist, I declare that only the original trilogy qualifies as good Star Wars films. But thanks to Disney, even The Phantom Menace now feels like a cinematic gem. That said, the once silly-looking Battle Droid riding a Single Trooper Aerial Platform (STAP) from the film has suddenly become iconic—and in a good way, no less. If you now find yourself oddly smitten with this combo, then the new LEGO Star Wars Battle Droid with STAP (75428) might just be your next obsession.

LEGO Star Wars Battle Droid with STAP (75428)

Designed for ages 12 and up (yes, that means us), LEGO uses 1,088 pieces to bring this prequel-era scene to life. It comes complete with a stand, a display plaque, and a tiny version of the Battle Droid with STAP for good measure. LEGO’s been doing this whole “plaque with minifig” thing for a while, but I think this is the first time we’re getting a macro figure riding a macro vehicle. Not gonna lie, it’s kinda surreal seeing a micro version parked right next to the info plaque like it’s some sort of before-and-after comparison.

Like many recent LEGO IP releases, this is a dynamic build-and-display model. The brick-built, posable Battle Droid isn’t glued to the speeder—it can hop off for a stretch, hold its blaster, or strap it to its back. When completed, the figure on STAP measures over 15 in. (38 cm) high, 11.5 in. (30 cm) long, and 5.5 in. (14 cm) wide. If you’re down, the LEGO Star Wars Battle Droid with STAP (75428) is up for pre-order now for US$139.99, with shipping set to blast off on July 1, 2025
