Leica Watch Monochrom Edition

Along with the release of the Leica M11 Monochrom, Leica has also announced the Leica Watch Monochrom Edition. That’s right. Monochrom is not limited to Leica cameras; it now applies to timepieces too. That said, the new Leica ZM Monochrom Edition, as it is called, is essentially the first Leica watch with the colors, including the silver tone, removed. The red dot is retained, though.

It shares the same movement as the stainless steel version, and it also has a patented push-crown that, with a simple push, stops the movement from working and resets the second’s hand to zero to enable easy time setting. The watch case is 41 mm, and the beautiful black-out aesthetic there is lent to it by a special black PVD treatment.

It is outfitted with an anti-reflective curved sapphire crystal, and the new dial design with glossy black logo print and white minute indication is home to black rhodium-plated, diamond cut, sandblasted indices, and hands. Completing the package is a watch strap that is identical to the texture of the M11 Monochrom camera and made of thick, strong-grained, black calf leather, crafted using a cut-edge construction with hand-stitching and a black PVD-coated pin buckle.

The Leica ZM Monochrom Edition has two models: Leica ZM 1 and Leica ZM 2. The latter is a GMT model with a 24-hour GMT turning bezel, adjustable using the second crown and a day/night indicator for the GMT function. The ZM here stands for “Zeitmesser” which basically is German for timepiece.

The new Leica ZM Monochrom Edition will be available from late May at selected Leica stores worldwide, including Germany, Switzerland, Austria, France, Spain, Portugal, the UK, USA, China, Japan, Singapore, Korea, Hong Kong, United Arab Emirates, and Australia.

It has an RRP of €11,550/US$11,000 and €15,450/US$15,000 for the Leica ZM 1 Monochrom and Leica ZM 2 Monochrom, respectively. For residents of the U.S.A., both models will be sold exclusively at Leica Store LA and Leica Store D.C. starting May 15, 2023.
