MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display
Steve Jobs once called touchscreen laptops ergonomically terrible. Sixteen years later, Apple has introduced its first touchscreen MacBook Pro, complete with a tandem OLED PROLED XDR display, M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, and even Dynamic Island. It seems Apple has had quite the change of heart.

Remember when Apple insisted that touchscreens had no place on Macs? Steve Jobs once called the idea ergonomically terrible, even suggesting that prolonged use would make your arm want to fall off. Well, 16 years later, Apple has decided that perhaps touching your MacBook screen isn’t such a terrible idea after all. Meet the new MacBook Pro with PROLED XDR Display. Yes, folks, it’s a touchscreen MacBook. What a time to be alive.

Available in 14- and 16-inch models, the new MacBook Pro introduces a tandem OLED display boasting up to 2,000 nits of peak HDR and SDR brightness, a 10,000,000:1 contrast ratio, and adaptive refresh rates between 10 and 120 Hz. It also supports P3 and Adobe RGB color spaces, with over 80 percent Rec. 2020 coverage.

The touchscreen allows users to scroll, pinch to zoom, draw directly on the display, and manipulate 3D models. Apple even redesigned the hinge for better stability when poking at the screen. Wise choice, IMHO. I have personally felt the fragility of the hinge through the use of external monitors attached to the lid. And no, the keyboard and trackpad aren’t going anywhere.

Another surprise is the arrival of Dynamic Island on the Mac, bringing Spotlight, Live Activities, and Siri AI into an interactive area at the top of the display.

Under the hood are Apple’s M5 Pro and M5 Max chips, paired with up to 128 GB of unified memory and a whopping 16 TB of storage. Other highlights include Thunderbolt 5, Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6, a 12 MP Center Stage camera, and a six-speaker sound system.

Despite packing all that hardware, Apple has made the machines thinner and lighter, weighing approximately 1.36 kg (3 lbs) and 1.81 kg (4 lbs), respectively. Battery life reaches up to 24 hours, and macOS 27 Golden Gate powers the experience.

Pre-orders opened October 28, with availability beginning November 6, 2026. Prices start at US$2,899 for the 14-inch M5 Pro model and US$3,399 for the 16-inch version. M5 Max models start at US$4,499 and US$4,799, respectively.
