Another update from MegaHouse, and this one should have OG Metal Gear Solid fans buzzing—well, as long as they’re cool with a chibi war machine. The Variable Action D-Spec – Metal Gear Solid: Metal Gear REX: RE is here, taking the towering, nuclear-capable behemoth and giving it the “Q” treatment.
I haven’t exactly kept tabs on Metal Gear Solid collectibles (despite being a big fan), but I believe this is a reissue. Whether it is or not doesn’t really matter. What matters is that if you’re a fan and don’t already have one, now’s your chance to own this adorable little death machine.
At 120mm (4.7 inches) tall, this figure condenses REX’s mechanical menace into a compact, highly articulated form that can strike dynamic action poses. The legs feature mechanisms for transforming into attack modes, and despite the stylized look, the intricate details of the original design are faithfully preserved.
As a bonus, the set includes tiny stylized figures of Solid Snake and Liquid Snake, so you can relive their iconic showdown—albeit in a much cuter way. If you ask me, those look better than their polygon counterparts on PS1. Just saying!
The Metal Gear REX: RE is set to drop in August 2025 with a price tag of ¥14,300 (about 95 USD, tax included). If you want your own miniature walking battle tank, keep an eye out for pre-orders.
