Metric - Digital Blend Watch by Brew Watches

If you drink espresso from a capsule-based automatic espresso system like Nespresso, then a watch like the Metric – Digital Blend Watch by Brew Watches is nothing more than bragging rights and a placard that says you are a coffee drinker. But if you like making espresso the good’ol way, this watch has an Espresso Shot Timer that boasts a 30-second countdown and a percolating coffee cup animation, ideal for timing your perfect espresso pull.

Launched way back in 2023 (yes, we are super late on this), the Metric – Digital Blend Watch by coffee-inspired watch brand Brew Watches remains relevant as long as you time your espresso. And yes, it is also a regular watch too.

It is the world’s first hybrid watch to combine an analog dial with a digital espresso shot timer. Hybrid watches, meaning analog plus digital, have existed for decades. However, this watch is the first to combine an analog timekeeper with an LED display for timing espresso shots. Not going to lie. This has to be one of the coolest wrist gadgets ever, and hence, it has to be mentioned even if it means I am shaming myself for being two years late in writing about it.

Anyhoo, the Metric – Digital Blend Watch is not just practical; it is a fashion statement too. It rocks a retro-modern aesthetic with a rounded-square case, echoing the design of industrial espresso machines (which is super fitting for its purpose) and that of a 1970s CRT TV. The dial face is as minimalist as it can be.

It only has four markers, and it has a three-hand setup against the gloss black dial face. Except for the second hand, the hour and minute hands, and the markers, all feature a specialized glow-in-the-dark application to enable low-light time-reading. The extraction shot timer is, of course, illuminated. Though I am not sure why you’d be waiting for the brew in the dark. But hey, not judging here.

It has a 316L stainless steel case measuring 37.50 mm by 43 mm, and 13 mm thick. The stainless steel case is paired with sapphire glass, a brushed and polished stainless steel band, and a folding clasp with micro-adjustments. The movement is not specified. We only know it is an analog-digital module.

But we do know that if you happen to be making espresso at Bikini Bottom, this watch should be able to handle it since it is water-resistant to 5 ATM or 50 meters (~164 feet). Just kidding. Don’t do that. Not that an underwater café or espresso machine exists. We are not even sure if you should trigger the timer when underwater.

Anyways, if you are down, the Metric – Digital Blend Watch by Brew Watches is available from the Brew Watches web store for 425 US dollars. More good news if you are in Japan. The Metric – Digital Blend has arrived in Japan through Tic Tac stores [JP], as well as the Tic Tac online store, for 66,000 yen.
