If there is one thing Michael Jackson fans have proven over the decades, it is that they are not exactly short on collectibles. Albums, singles, box sets, concert films, action figures, and enough memorabilia to fill Neverland twice over. Even so, Lionsgate Limited believes there is room for one more with the new Michael Collector’s Edition.
Built around the Michael biopic directed by Antoine Fuqua, this collector’s set aims to be more than just another movie release. It is positioned as a celebration of the King of Pop’s life, artistry, and legacy, packaged in a way that should appeal to both film fans and longtime Michael Jackson devotees.
The film stars Jaafar Jackson as Michael, alongside Nia Long as Katherine Jackson, Colman Domingo as Joseph Jackson, and Miles Teller as John Branca. Rather than focusing solely on the music, the film traces Michael’s journey from his early days with The Jackson 5 to his rise as one of the most influential entertainers in history.
The centerpiece of the release is, naturally, the movie itself, presented in 4K Ultra HD with Dolby Vision and accompanied by a Blu-ray and digital copy. However, collectors are likely to be more interested in the extras packed into the box.
Included is an exclusive 50-page photo book featuring never-before-seen and behind-the-scenes photography from the film, complete with an introduction by Jaafar Jackson. The package also features new collectible artwork by gravillis™, showcasing some of Michael’s most iconic dance moves. If a silhouette leaning forward at an impossible angle instantly starts playing Smooth Criminal in your head, you are probably the target audience.
The bonus features dig deeper into both the production and the legend behind it. Highlights include Don’t Stop ’Til You Get Enough: The Making of Michael, Home Is Where His Heart Is: Behind the Gates of Hayvenhurst, and In the Mirror: Becoming Michael & Joe Time-lapses. Additional featurettes such as First Look, Becoming Michael, Before the Big Screen, and On the Set of Michael round out the package, alongside the theatrical trailers.
The release spans two discs—one 4K UHD and one Blu-ray—with Dolby Atmos audio and a 127-minute runtime. As with many Lionsgate Limited releases, the 4K UHD disc is region-free, while the Blu-ray is Region A only.
The Michael Collector’s Edition is available for pre-order now, with a release date still to be announced. When it arrives, fans can expect to pay US$39.99, down from the US$49.99 MSRP.
