planning to scale the Himalaya mountains? or trekking through the wilderness in Alaska? then you will be needing a camera such as the Olympus Tough TG-1 to capture your journey’s most important moments. while ruggedized digital cameras are not new, the Tough TG-1 is one tough camera geared towards the cream of the crop of rugged camera users. the specs speak for itself: 12.0-megapixel backlit CMOS sensor matched to a ultra wide angle 25-100mm f2.0-f/4.9 lens with 4x zoom, Truepix VI image processor, ISO range up to 6,400, full HD 1080p recording, a 3.0-inch 610k dot OLED display, and it comes with an adapter ring for use with optional lens converter. the latter is a feature that is not found in current slew of ruggedized camera, which also hints on where this camera is targeted. currently, a Fisheye and Teleconverter lens are available. of course, those specs are just the camera side of things. as for the rugged aspect of this camera, it is capable of taking a dip up (or was it, down?) to 12 meters (39 feet), sustain a drop from a 2 meter (6.6 feet) height, crush-proof up to 100 Kgf and freeze-proof to minus 10 degree celsius (14 Fahrenheit). it is also equipped with A-GPS and electronic compass that logs your coordinates of where the images are taken. perfect for identifying places in the wilderness where they look almost exactly the same, as well as reviewing the route traveled. other features include DUAL IS image stabilization, low light mode, 3D photo, pressure sensor that displays atmospheric pressure and altitude, macro LED, and double lock mechanism, just to name a few. the Olympus Tough TG-1 is available in the market now with a $399.99 sticker.
