Halloween is usually a blur of costumes, pumpkins, spooky decorations, and, of course, candy—the kind typically tossed by the fistful into plastic buckets. Speaking of sweet treats, do you know Halloween sweets can go full-on artisan and upmarket, too? Well, just ask Pierre Hermé Paris
Its Japan-exclusive 2026 Halloween Collection reunites the French patisserie with Paris-based artist Julie Stephen Chheng and her uramado world of nature spirits called “Tanuki.” These whimsical creatures occupy limited-edition boxes that can be scanned with a smartphone to unlock an augmented-reality experience. Apparently, merely eating expensive macarons was not magical enough.
The collection includes boxes of six and ten macarons featuring flavors such as pear, fig, pumpkin and corn, strawberry, vanilla, and the ever-popular Ispahan. They command 3,402 yen (around US$21) and 4,725 yen (about US$30), respectively.
For people who prefer their Halloween treats with more crunch, there is a 1,566-yen (US$10) sablé assortment containing roasted pumpkin-seed biscuits and chocolate biscuits with fleur de sel.
Rounding out the collection is Cake Nuance, a black sesame pound cake filled with candied chestnuts and topped with silver leaf. It costs 2,052 yen (about US$13). Curiously, its box does not feature the spirits. Perhaps they were frightened away by the black sesame.
The Pierre Hermé Paris × uramado Halloween 2026 Collection [JP] will be available at participating boutiques across Japan from September 1 through October 31, 2026.
So, if you are living in Japan or are visiting during said period, you may want to check it out. No plastic pumpkin bucket required—just a respectable dessert budget.
