It looks like Pizza Hut is not only changing the notion of burgers in its home country; it is doing the same for its chain in Japan too. But the burgers offered by Pizza Hut Japan are more burgers than the Cheeseburger Melt which was essentially a folded slice of pizza.
But before we get with the story, Pizza Hut Japan has previously offered an unconventional-for-Pizza Hut menu which it dubbed Guilty ’Secret’ Menu.
This limited-time menu, which was offered between June 7 and 16, includes three menu items, namely, a la-Cheeseburger Melt ‘Secret Hut Metls With All The Best Pizza Parts Layered in One Bite’, a ‘Pizza Sandwich With Chicken Inside a Mayo-Chicken Pizza’—a taco-style sandwich with dough instead of a corn or wheat shell, and a ‘Secret Side Box With All the Chicken You Want’ which is a multi-piece chicken drumstick dish served with fries.
These menu items were a hit among consumers and Pizza Hut Japan decided to bring them back for yet another limited time [JP]. But this time, Pizza Hut Japan has added two more menu items to the Secret Menu. The new menu items are real burgers, well, almost.
There is the ‘Even Though It’s a Pizza Chain, Rice Chicken Burger’, a burger that instead of bread buns, has “buns” formed by rice much like sushi. It is a common burger “bun” made popular by the Japanese fast food chain MOS Burger.
Sandwiched between soy sauce-flavored rice buns are mayonnaise sauce, bulgogi beef, and chives—which are three key ingredients for Pizza Hut’s bulgogi pizza—plus Tatsuta chicken filling.
The second burger, which is loosely translated to ‘Even Though It’s a Pizza Chain, Chicken & Chicken Burger’, is loaded with meat. It is identical to the rice buns burger but it does not have rice buns, nor does it have regular bread buns; instead it has Japanese-style Tatsuta chicken pieces as “buns”. It is a burger overloaded with meat!
The new burgers—which cost 780 yen a pop (US$4.90)—along with the previously limited menu items, are being offered in Pizza Hut Japan restaurants from June 19 to June 30, 2024.
