If you have a thing for old fighter jets and love Nike sneakers – particularly, Jordans, well, then look out for this pair of new Air Jordan 5 retro kicks. Mind you, this ain’t no ordinary rebooted retro. It is a pair inspired by the classic American long-range, single-seater fighter bomber used back in WWII, the North American Aviation P-51 Mustang. Obviously, there’s not a lot you can do to a sneaker to make it look like a flying Mustang. You certainly don’t expect propellers on those kicks, much less wings or stabilizers, but it sure has something that will appeal to aviation enthusiasts: the iconic shark teeth. As far as the actual kicks are concerned, the shark teeth is not what you expect; it is presented as embossed on the leather wrapped midsole. It is really subtle.
As far as image goes, the shark teeth doesn’t really stand out as it shares the same color as the Sequoia green colorway. However, you will be able to find the iconic, colored shark teeth on the limited edition shoe box and the included protective shoe bag. Other details include oversized “Flight” lace lock, laser etching on the ventilated side panel, Jordan brand’s signature Vachetta Tan lifestyle accent on the tongue, and a “militarized construction” which is nod to the P-51 flight bomber jacket. The Air Jordan 5 “Take Flight” Sneakers by Nike is expected to available starting February 11, 2017, commanding a sneaker-level of princely sum of $400 a pair. Ouch.
