though constant force mechanism is no secret in the watch industry, it remains a constant challenge for watchmakers and today, this challenge is gladly met and conquered by watchmaker Romain Gauthier with his latest creation, the Romain Gauthier Logical One. the Logical One improves on the age-old chain-and-fusee system and replaces the fusee with a slowly rotating snail cam, which is visible at the 10 o’clock mark. in this system, the snail cam and mainspring barrel are on the same plane, thereby ensuring that the force is always transmitted in a straight line with a significantly shorter chain, which in turns allow for a bigger and stronger chain. Gaultier further improves on this breakthrough winding system with chain links crafted out of hard-wearing synthetic rubies. the latter not only improved on the power transfer efficiency but is also a real eye-pleaser. another noteworthy feature is the use of push button winding system, instead of the traditional crown winding, with the pusher located on the left, blending beautifully with the caseband.
other features include the standard serving of hours, minutes and small seconds, a 60-hour power reserve (it is a shame that the power reserve indicator has to be located on the caseback, though), a 43mm red gold or platinum case, water resistance to 50 meters (150 feet), sapphire crystal with anti-reflection coating on both front and caseback, time-setting crown with sapphire cabochon at 2 o’clock, an in-house manufacture movement caliber, and alligator leather hand-stitched in Switzerland with metal pin buckle. rounding up the aesthetic department are the highest level of haute horlogerie finishing that encompasses hand polished screws and jewel countersinks, hand bevelled and polished bridges and plates. it is not known how much this awesome time piece will cost, or when it will be made available. check out a few more larger views in the mini gallery below and catch the product video further down, or learn more the Romain Gauthier Logical One HERE.
