That’s right. More Seiko collab timepieces. Pardon us, but this one is too good to pass up—especially for folks passionate about old Japanese cars. We’re talking about the Datsun 240Z. Yes, the Z from the pre-Nissan days. For true petrolheads, that’s connoisseur-level goodness you can now wear on your wrist.
This isn’t just a watch; it’s a rally-winning, desert-dusting, timekeeping homage. Seiko has teamed up with the legend of 1971’s East African Safari Rally—the Datsun 240Z that plastered its “11” racing number and SEIKO logo on the way to victory. That win cemented the Z as a world-beater and Seiko as the stopwatch master of motorsport. Now, more than 50 years later, the pair reunite in style.
There are four collab models: a mechanical with a countdown timer (SBDC219 [JP]), a mechanical chronograph (SBEC029 [JP]), and two solar chronographs (SBDL121 [JP], SBDL123 [JP]). Each watch carries rally-inspired touches: matte black dials to cut glare like the Z’s bonnet, pops of rally red, and numerals lifted from the Z’s dashboard. Flip them over and you’ll find special casebacks with either the vintage Datsun logo, the rally car’s emblem, or straight-up illustrations of the 240Z itself.
Specs-wise, expect case sizes between 39.5 mm and 42 mm, water resistance from 10 to 20 bar, sapphire glass with anti-reflective coating, and leather or steel straps (with LWG-certified leather for the eco-conscious).
Prices range from 137,500 yen to 473,000 yen (about US$870 to US$3,000).
So yes, you can’t own a 240Z Safari winner, but you can strap one to your wrist. And it won’t even need an oil change.
