If you haven’t already noticed, the Subaru WRX model has split from the Impreza line since 2014. Speaking of WRX, there is a new WRX coming your way. Revealed Subaru of America earlier last month is the all-new 2022 Subaru WRX.
This new performance sedan has the most advanced features, design, and performance in its nearly 20-year history said Subaru of America. Though, the performance is not quite mind-blowing, TBH.
I mean, the power output limit has been removed for over 15 years now, but still, the new WRX is getting just 271 horses out of its 2.4L turbocharged Boxer engine.
Thankfully, though, you still get the option of having it mated to a 6-speed manual transmission – in addition to a new automatic gearbox, Subaru Performance Transmission, that offers faster up and downshifts. The latter is available to the new top-of-the-line GT trim, btw.
The new WRX GT is the first-ever WRX model to offer electronically controlled dampers that can tailor the dynamic performance to the driver’s preferences – along with a myriad of drive customization options.
The 2022 WRX also marks the first time a WRX is built on the Subaru Global Platform which promises increased safety, improved dynamics, and reductions in noise, vibration, and harshness.
While it may have just 271 horses, it does have a broad torque curve with 258 lb-ft available at your disposal from 2,000 to 5,200 RPM. The bump in displacement, plus the turbocharger with electronically controlled wastegate and air bypass valves, all contribute to improved responsiveness and acceleration.
Some other highlights include Subaru Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive and Active Torque Vectoring, dual-pinion electric power steering, EyeSight Driver Assist Technology, new tablet-style HD Subaru Starlink 11.6-inch center information display, compact LED highlights, broad front hood scoop, summer performance tires on 17- or 18-inch alloy wheels, four-wheel ventilated disc brakes, and aluminum front fenders that shaved 5 lbs off the overall vehicle weight.
