Most loyal Star Wars didn’t think Episode I, The Phantom Menace lived up to the franchise’s name, but if there was one thing good and memorable about the film, it would be the Pod racing scenes. It must be so, why else would there be a video game on it, right? I am not going to lie. I am a fan of the Pod racing scene and now even more so because of one dude: Alexis Dos Santos. You see, Alexis Dos Santos, AKA TKEL Creations, has recreated the iconic Pod racing scene with LEGO and mind you, he didn’t just cobble together a diorama of the scene; he recreated the scene as an interactive LEGO which he can play like a video game. Now, that’s super cool! Continue reading I Want This LEGO Arcade Of The Star Wars Pod Racing So Very Badly!
If you have doubts about if robots could ever take over human beings, then you should really take a look at creations like the LEGO Mindstorms Guitar Robot designed and built by YouTuber Fastythefastcat. Why? Because it strums a guitar, complete with cord manipulation, to a tune and it is made out of freaking LEGO! That’s why. Granted it is cobbled together using a slightly advanced ‘toy’, the LEGO Mindstorms, which allows for programming and the works for the magic to happen. Having said that, if a ‘toy’ set can be made to do something with such complexity, then you can imagine what industrial or lab-grade components can achieved now and in the future. Two things that are really amazing about this particular LEGO project by Youtuber Astonishing Studios. First, this dude is only 16 years old and second, it is a fully functional McNugget vending machine – made entirely out of LEGO with a little help from LEGO robotic kit, Mindstorms. Granted, this sweet little creation can only hold and ‘sell’ two boxes of McDonald’s Chicken McNugget with no option for the choice of sauce. It is a pretty mind-blowing creation nonetheless and an awesome showcase of LEGO’s flexibility and Astonishing Studios’ creativity. the first smartphone controlled robot, it is not but still, the LEGO MINDSTORMS EV3 is one heck of ‘toy’ that both children (10 years and up) and grown ups can enjoy. we shall not delve into the MINDSTORMS’ beginning some fifteen years ago cos’ what you really need to know is how awesome this latest incarnation is. this third generation robotic kit from the Danish firm features a Linux-based controller, dubbed the EV3 intelligent brick, powered by an ARM processor. with this new ‘brain’, it also marks the first time you can program commands directly into the controller without being tethered to a computer.
