If you’re a fan of small folding phones, TECNO’s got you covered again with the PHANTOM V Flip2, following up on its earlier Flip model. This time, it’s riding the trend of a large external display, with the camera modules and flash embedded in the screen.
Like the PHANTOM V Fold2, it is powered by TECNO AI because it’s 2024 so it ain’t a smartphone with a dash of AI.
Let’s talk about its size. No, it’s not the thinnest or the lightest out there, but at 196 grams and 7.64 mm when unfolded, it’s pretty decent. TECNO claims it’s got an ergonomic 22:9 aspect ratio that’s “tailored to fit thumb usage.” Apparently, thumbs are a big deal. No word on which thumb they measured, but yours will probably be fine. The design features the first-ever “shimmering sand etch crafted design.” I have no clue what that means but god damn it. It looks fantastic!
The hinge, for those who care about the folding life expectancy, is battle-tested for 400,000 folds at room temperature. If you prefer extreme climates, it’ll survive 150,000 folds in a heatwave or 100,000 folds in the cold. So, it’s tough—just don’t put it in an oven or a freezer too often.
Its 6.9-inch AMOLED LTPO display features a 120 Hz adaptive refresh rate because scrolling through your socials should look silky smooth. With 2,160 Hz high-frequency PWM dimming and P3 color gamut support, it’s got the specs to back up that impressive screen.
The camera setup is nothing to sneeze at either, with a 50 MP ultra-wide and a 50 MP main camera, complete with OIS to make your shaky hands look like they’re steady as a rock. The 32 MP front camera comes with PDAF and a built-in flash for when your selfies need a little extra light.
Under the hood, there’s a Dimensity 8020 5G chip keeping everything snappy, alongside 16 GB of RAM (including 8 GB extended RAM) and 256 GB of storage. Dual SIM 5G ensures you’re always connected, and the GPS can get you within a meter of your destination—so if you miss it, you can’t blame the phone.
The external 3.64-inch AMOLED cover screen is customizable, offering various wallpaper options and stylish frames, with an AI wallpaper generator in case you’re too indecisive. You can even play games on the cover screen, because why not?
There’s of course Dolby Atmos, because. To top it all off, the 4,720 mAh battery supports 70 W wired fast charging, meaning you’ll be back to folding and unfolding in no time.
