Tom Ford Ocean Plastic Sport Automatic Watch

Eco-conscious, sustainable, and good-for-the-environment. These are not terms associated with timepieces, let alone luxury timepieces but here it is, a luxury timepiece that is actually doing its part to alleviate the planet of a nagging problem: ocean plastic.

Tom Ford Ocean Plastic Sport Automatic Watch

Folks, this is Tom Ford Ocean Plastic Sport, the world’s first automatic watch made from ocean plastic. The watch literally does not contain any virgin plastics or non-ocean bound plastics. On top of that, the recycled ocean plastic it uses is traceable to the collective source.

Besides the obvious Tom Ford kind of cool, each Tom Ford Ocean Plastic Sport Automatic Watch saves an equivalent of 35 bottles of plastic waste from the ocean.

Obviously, when we say it is 100% ocean plastic, it means where plastics were used, such as the case of the rotating top ring and the straps.

We heard, in addition to recycled ocean plastic, the transportation of the ocean plastic granules is carbon neutral and the compounding is powered by solar energy. How’s that for an eco-friendly product?

Powered by an unspecified automatic movement, the Tom Ford Ocean Plastic Sport features a 43 mm case with a rotating top ring crafted from 100% ocean plastic, a black DLC-plated stainless caseback, a black DLC-plated stainless steel screw-down crown with ocean plastic inlay, a matte black dial with Super Luminova numerals, diamond-cut white Super Luminova painted hands and sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating.

The timepiece is paired to a jacquard strap made from, you guessed it, 100% ocean plastic with stainless steel buckle and loops – both plated in black PVD.

The watch is water resistance to 10ATM (100 meters or 330 feet).

Completing the packaging is recyclable packaging – also made from 100% ocean plastic, along with recycled paper box and interior. There’s also a white model with a white case, white straps, and a white dial face.

If anyone’s interested, the Tom Ford Ocean Plastic Sport Automatic Watch is available from tomford.com for US$1,495.
