UNO has spent decades turning peaceful family gatherings into accusations, betrayal, and debates over whether stacking Draw Fours is legal. Mattel thinks it is time to stop pretending it is merely a card game and give it the sporting treatment. Yes, card sports—like esports—are a thing now. And we are not talking about poker.

Folks, welcome to the UNO Championship Series, where elite players will battle for the title of 2026 UNO Champion and a US$50,000 grand prize. It sure looks like the years spent destroying friendships around the dining table turn out to be training.
In-person qualifiers will take place in Kissimmee, Florida, on October 3; Chicago on October 10; and El Segundo, California, on October 17. One winner from each event advances to the final in Los Angeles on November 11. Four more players can qualify through free weekly tournaments in the UNO! Mobile app from August 31 through September 27, while additional competitors will be invited from around the world. The championship will also stream live on Twitch.
Picture it: dramatic entrance music, players approaching the table under spotlights, and commentators shouting, “BAH GAWD, THAT’S A WILD DRAW FOUR!” Going topless and applying face paint are entirely optional. Shouting “UNO!” like you have just landed a knockout punch is strongly encouraged because, you know, it helps establish dominance.
The excitement, glitz, and glamor are not limited to the “arena.” You can recreate the spectacle at home, too. The US$19.99 UNO Championship Series Tournament Set adds escalating rules and score tracking, while a separate US$19.99 wearable championship belt lets the winner parade around the living room until bedtime. The belt is not a joke, by the way. It is a thing money can buy.
There is also a US$24.99 automatic card shuffler and a US$32.99 Expanded Tournament Set with 336 cards, a trophy, and support for up to 30 players to complete your home-based professional championship setup. There is no prize money up for grabs, though—unless you want to surrender your piggy bank as the pot. Well, at least there is a trophy and a belt.
