Is just me or Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles are looking better and better? Just look at the new Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles Multivan. Tell me that it isn’t less commercial-like and more recreational-like. It definitely look like a potential camper to us.
The fact that it offered with a suite of digital and connect services , optional panoramic glass roof with LowE laminated safety glass, LED headlights, and up to 19-inch wheels made it even more recreational. Seriously, why is this under VW Commercial Vehicles anyways? I mean, you don’t see Lexus LM categorized as commercial vehicle…
This latest ride revealed by Volkswagen Commercial Vehicles will replace the current Volkswagen Caravelle and offered with plug-in hybrid (PHEV) option for the first time. Unlike the Caravelle which was built on the Transporter platform, the new Volkswagen Multivan is built on Volkswagen Group’s MQB platform.
Beyond its strangely beautiful exterior (which is a homage to the 1985 Transporter T3, btw) for a commercial vehicle, the Multivan boasts a flexible interior that seats up to seven and 469 liters of cargo space behind the third row seats. The latter is expandable up to 1,844 liters when the third row seats are stowed away and 3,672 liters up to the front seats.
The three powertrain offered include the PHEV featuring a 148 HP 1.4 TSI paired to an 85 kW electric motor for a combined output of 160 kW (215 HP) and mated to a six-speed DSG gearbox. The onboard battery system is a 13 kWh lithium-ion.
Meanwhile the two other engine options are four-cylinder turbocharged petrol engines, namely, a 134 HP 1.5 TSI motor and a 201 HP 2.0L TSI engine. A diesel variant with 148 HP will join the line up next year.
Whichever you engine options or specifications (Multivan, Life, and Style) you choose, it will be paired with a seven-speed DSG gearbox as standard.
A few other notables include 2,000 kg (4,410 lbs) towing capacity, over 34 driver assist systems, and an electrically operated rear hatch and power sliding doors that can be open via gesture control. Pricing and exactly availability are yet to be announced.
