when Volkswagen re-imagined their iconic Beetle, it was nothing short of sensational and we suspect that this iconic bug-like silhouette will continue its journey well into the future and for that future, Volkswagen has to look into electric drive. the result is the Volkswagen E- Bugster Concept, a pure electric drive rendition of the iconic Beetle. on the cosmetic front, the E-Bugster sports a typical speedster profile with shallow windows, and a much lower but dramatic roofline. putting it in motion is a 85 kW (114 horsepower) electric motor with 199 pound-feet of torque, along with a lithium-ion battery that is good for 100 miles range. other features include LED Daytime Running Lights, flared fenders, 20-inch wheels, and EV-specific instrumentation that includes energy consumption display, driving range indicator, battery charge state, as well as battery regeneration indicator. as with most concept, they are a prelude of what is to come in near future but we certainly hope this E-Bugster will become a reality. no seriously, we probably can’t afford it anyway but it will be nice to see these rolling around on the streets someday.
