MONO Toys and Collectibles Display Cabinet by Moduspace

IKEA Detolf has attained legendary status among toy collectors, becoming the go-to display cabinet due to its all-around glass design that allows collectors to admire their collection from all sides. However, it is not for everyone, especially if you are not fond of dusting toys. It has gaps that allow dust to enter, which is where MONO comes in.

MONO is the latest toy and collectibles display solution from the Singapore-based Moduspace (formerly Moducase). Unlike the iconic IKEA glass cabinet, which was not designed with a toy display in mind, MONO is specifically tailored for this purpose.

MONO inherits the signature Moduspace design of aluminum and child-safe acrylic panels, creating a sturdy and dust-proof display for your beloved collections. While some may enjoy dusting toys as part of their collecting experience, it is not ideal in every environment.

In certain conditions, dust can combine with other contaminants in the air and adhere to objects, thus remaining dirty-looking even after dusting – until you wipe the toys down with a damp cloth (which is not recommended for all toys, btw). So, yeah, I am a fervent believer in keeping dust out as much as possible.

Featuring Moduspace’s iconic magnetic front panel, MONO keeps the cabinet securely shut while providing easy access when necessary. It also boasts 2-inch leveling riser legs, allowing for perfect alignment with the floor.

Additionally, MONO illuminates your collection with vertical lighting, utilizing slim 8mm, wide-angle LED light strips to ensure maximum illumination at each level. The shelves can be adjusted to your desired height, and product images reveal that it features two vertical LED lights running the entire height of the cabinet. The light’s color temperature is 6000K.

MONO is similarly sized to the legendary Detolf cabinet, measuring 1686 x 440 x 410 mm (66.4 x 17.3 x 16 inches), and is offered with two types of shelves: 8 mm (1/3 inch) clear plexiglass shelves, and solid wood shelves with reversible felt overlay/black laminate. The former supports a maximum load of 5 kilograms, while the latter is more suited for heavier collectibles with a maximum load of 10 kilograms. It includes four levels in total.

Moduspace has been teasing the MONO for a while, and it is now available to order in North America for US$199. Availability in Singapore, Australia, Europe, and the U.K. will be announced later, along with the pricing.

Unlike the made-to-order Moducases, the MONO is available in limited quantities for each batch. Orders will be accepted for two weeks or until the quantity is exhausted, after which it will be shipped via sea in the next available container, approximately two weeks later.

From there, expect around eight weeks, give or take, for arrival at Moduspace’s warehouse in California. While it does not require as long a wait as the Moducase series, it still requires a couple of months. Please take note of this timeline.
