you probably can’t get the Ayrton Senna 1199 if you are outside Brazil, but not all hopes are lost cos’ the Italian bike maker has another exclusive, the 2014 Ducati 1199 Superleggera Superbike, that you probably will be able lay your hands on. this limited production model is constructed from a cocktails of titanium (con-rod, exhaust system and more), magnesium (monocle and wheels) and carbon fiber (bodywork and rear sub-frame) to result in the “highest power-to-weight ratio of any production motorcycle in history.” based on the 1199 Panigale R, the Superleggera packs a punch with 200 horsepower coming from a 1,198cc L-twin cylinder with four valves per cylinder that drives a dry weight of mere 155 kilograms (341.7 pounds).
the exceeding lightweight comes courtesy of the aforementioned materials and the extra oomph is partly contributed by some internal works like world superbike-style pistons with higher compression, lightweight crankshaft with tungsten balance inserts, as well as titanium connecting rods. other features include Ohlins suspension, single-sided swingarm with 4-way adjustable pivot, Brembo Monobloc brakes with racing-style front master cylinder, plus a suite of electronics that covers the handling and safety aspect, such as traction and wheelie control, quick shifter, engine brake control, ride-by-wire, full LED lighting, full TFT instrumentation, lithium-ion battery and more. if that isn’t enough, there’a track-only Race Kit that squeezes out an additional 5 hp and cuts the dry weight by 2.5 kilograms (5.5 pounds).
only 500 of such examples are made available, of which three quarters of the lot has already been snapped and therefore, the same rule applies here: act fast if you want one, but in any case that you missed it, you can always console yourself with some beautiful images in the gallery below, or learn more about the 1199 Superleggera HERE.
