In a time like this, it makes sense to go electric as your daily driver but if you aren’t ready to go all-out electric, then perhaps you can take baby steps by going hybrid. If so, Honda has just the cool hybrid for you. Well, that’s if you live in Europe or in South East Asia.
Honda in Europe has added a hybrid electric model to its Civic lineup. Set to hit the EU market later this year (autumn 2022), the 11th-gen Civic is the final mainstream Honda model to be electrified. And it will be a ride of significance because it is blessed with the automaker’s “most advanced iteration of e:HEV full-hybrid powertrain.”
Powering the all-new 2022 Honda Civic e:HEV Hatchback is not one but two compact and powerful electric motors (namely, an Intelligent Power Unit or IPU and a Power Control Unit or PCU), paired with a power-dense lithium-ion battery, and a newly-developed 2.0L Atkinson-cycle petrol engine.
The engine touts direct injection, along with several technologies that contribute to improved fuel economy. All told, the 2022 Honda Civic e:HEV Hatchback has a fuel economy of 4.7L/100 kilometers (about 50 mph) while delivering a max output of 135 kW (about 181 horsepower) and a pretty maximum torque of 315 Nm (232 lb-ft).
Switching between EV, hybrid, and gas-powered drive is completely seamless and automatic. The car further touts four drive modes: Eco, Normal, Sport, and a new Individual mode.
The vehicle also touts a host of highlights, including increased body rigidity, Active Noise Control, an expanded SENSING suite of advanced safety features, and driver aids – just to name a few. If you are in the U.K., you can register your interest HERE.
