Lets take our eyes off the 2021 Lamborghini Huracán STO Supercar which most of us can’t afford and take a look at car that’s more practical with respect to affordability. Not that the all-new 2022 Subaru BRZ is super cheap. While we don’t know the price yet, it is definitely way, way lesser than the US$328K the Huracán STO commands.
When the BRZ was first introduced in 2012, it kind of get off the wrong foot with some petrol heads. Hopefully this latest-gen can do better. For starter, we dig the look over its predecessor. It somehow, aesthetically, it looks a little like the A90 Toyota Supra-ish.
Armed with a new naturally aspirated 2.4L 4-cylinder Boxer engine, the all-new 2022 Subaru BRZ promised to deliver strong acceleration and smooth feeling, along with sharper handling and improved chassis dynamics to offer a car that is fun to drive.
The flat-four engine develops a healthy 228 horsepower and 184 lb-ft of torque – a 15% increase over the previous model, and it is mated to a choice of 6-speed manual transmission or 6-speed automatic transmission with “refined Sport mode” and it is rear-wheel drive – as a real sports car should.
The 6AT model will come equipped EyeSight Driver Assist Technology – the first for a Subaru BRZ. Two models will be offered: Premium and Limited, with the former getting a set of 17-inch aluminum alloy wheels while the latter, 18-inch aluminum alloy wheels.
The new BRZ further boasts aluminum roof, front fenders and hood, plus structural enhancements for improved collision safety. It is lighter, has a lower Center of Gravity, and features a bunch of aerodynamic components including side sill spoilers and air outlets behind the front fenders.
A few other notables include a horizontal instrument panel and low meter hood, 7-inch TFT and a segment LCD, contoured sport seat with firm side bolsters, and 8-inch Subaru Starlink multimedia infotainment system that features integration with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto.
The 2022 Subaru BRZ Sports Coupe is expected to go on sale “early fall of 2021.” Pricing will be announced closer to actual launch of the car.
