The new Z was introduced last year. It was a lovely car that had an aesthetic that was a true homage to the legendary Fairlady. But you know what’s more lovely? A NISMO variant, such as the 2024 Nissan Z NISMO. But I am not going to pretend to be super excited because the bump in power output isn’t a lot. Well, at least there is a performance bump – in addition to some sweet (NISMO) upgrades.
The 2024 Nissan Z NISMO’s twin-turbo engine puts out 420 horses and 384 lb-ft (520 Nm) of torque, which is an increase of 20 hp and 24 lb-ft (33 Nm) compared to the other Z grades. Peak torque is now available from 2,000 through to 5,200 RPM.
The newfound horsepower was made possible through a combination of improved cooling, revised electronic wastegate control that increased the turbocharger boost and turbine speed, and an independent ignition spark timing strategy borrowed from the GT-R NISMO.
The handling has also been enhanced with NISMO hardware, including the brakes, and suspension, along with NISMO-enhanced body rigidity and more aggressive tires offered by Dunlop SP SPORT MAXX GT600 wrapping NISMO-specific gloss black RAYS 19-inch wheels.
The interior is elevated too with anodized red engine start/stop and drive mode selection buttons, a red outline around the digital tachometer on the TFT display, and Recaro seats in leather and Alcantara with a red center section – just to name a few. For the 2024 model year, the Z Performance and NISMO grades add Amazon Alexa built-in connectivity.
Aesthetically, it is more sporty now – thanks to the NISMO-specific bodywork that improves aerodynamic balance and style. Not going to lie. That’s what caught our eyes, to begin with.
The 2024 Nissan Z NISMO will go on sale this Fall with pricing to be announced at a later date.
