First, it was Ultraman hugging your jocks; now it is Transformers’ turn. HIPSHOP, the Japanese fashion underwear brand best known for its bold, pop-culture-infused designs, now brings iconic OG Transformers characters to the underwear world with its latest collaboration with Takara Tomy.
The Hipshop Transformers Series Men’s Underwear features iconic characters from the original 1980s TV cartoon series. All told, there are six designs from both factions. The Autobots are represented by Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, and Jazz, while the Decepticons are Megatron, Starscream, and Soundwave.
The image of each character is based on their appearance in the original series, presented in HIPSHOP’s signature stylish design and colors. The name of the character is printed in bold on the waist section in front—like you don’t already know. Or is HIPSHOP half-expecting you to be strutting around in your underwear? Hmmm.
Anyhoo, the front has a close-up shot of the character, and around the back, there is a full-body image of the character against the faction’s emblem, sharing real estate with the TRANSFORMERS branding, the “pose” of the character, the name of the character again, and interestingly, a strength table detailing the character’s stats like, well, strength, intelligence, courage, et cetera. Finally, a huge HIPSHOP branding can be found on the waist section. Very cool.
Here’s the thing about HIPSHOP’s pop-culture-infused underwear: it has packaging that you will not be chucking into the recycle bin. The Hipshop Transformers Series Men’s Underwear features a poster-like front design that makes them display-worthy. Yes. Underwear packaging. Display-worthy.
As far as the material goes, each pair of underpants is made of quick-drying, stretchy polyester material with sweat-wicking properties, keeping you cool and dry.
The new Hipshop Transformers Series Men’s Underwear has been available since September, and comes in sizes for both adults and kids, priced at 2,800 yen and 2,500 yen, respectively [JP] (about 18 US dollars and 16 US dollars). They are available from HIPSHOP’s brick-and-mortar stores, the HIPSHOP online store, as well as from the ZOZOTOWN web store [JP]. Hipshop online does support international shipping.
