All-in-one music systems usually involve compromise. You get convenience, but audiophiles may start twitching at the thought of speakers, amplification, and streaming sharing one enclosure. Cambridge Audio’s Evo One intends to calm those nerves with 14 speakers and a combined 700 W of Class D amplification. Yes, really!
The speaker arrangement consists of four 1-inch silk-dome tweeters, four 2.25-inch aluminum-cone midrange drivers, and six 2.75-inch long-throw woofers. Each receives 50 W of power, so this elegant slab should have no trouble announcing your questionable playlist to the entire room.
Its fourth-generation StreamMagic platform provides access to Spotify Connect, TIDAL Connect, Qobuz, Deezer, Amazon Music, and internet radio. AirPlay 2, Google Cast, Roon, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and Ethernet are also supported. Local USB playback handles PCM files up to 32-bit/384 kHz and DSD128.
Vinyl has not been forgotten. A built-in moving-magnet phono stage lets you connect a turntable directly, while HDMI eARC allows the Evo One to handle TV audio without adding a soundbar. Room optimization and a seven-band EQ help adjust the sound to suit where you have parked it.
Up front is a customizable 6.8-inch IPS display with a 1,280 × 480 resolution. The enclosure pairs aluminum detailing with either FSC-certified walnut or an all-black Midnight finish, accompanied by a honeycomb-inspired grille.
The Cambridge Audio Evo One measures 675 × 129 × 290 mm (26.6 × 5.1 × 11.4 inches) and weighs 14.5 kg (32 pounds). It is available for US$1,799.
