Box cutters are great at opening parcels. Ask a flimsy little blade to tackle something tougher, though, and suddenly your everyday cutting tool needs emotional support. Carrying a larger knife solves the size problem by creating a pocket-space problem.
COMANDI’s Ti-Toucan aims to split the difference. The bird-inspired folding knife measures just 53 mm (2.1 inches) closed and weighs 48.9 g (1.7 oz), with a CNC-machined Grade 5 titanium body and a choice of VG10 or M390 steel blades. Titanium housing, steel beak. Ornithologists, please remain calm.
Its broad sheepsfoot blade has a 2.5 mm spine, while dual thumb studs and a ball-bearing pivot allow one-handed opening without sacrificing a fingernail. It fits on a keychain and comes in sandblasted titanium or PVD black. Note that the blade does not lock open; it uses a non-locking stop-slot mechanism.
COMANDI has once again turned to Kickstarter to fund its latest creation, with special pledges starting at HK$431 (about US$55) for one Ti-Toucan. The campaign has met its funding goal, which means it is a go. All that’s left is for COMANDI to fulfill its end of the deal once the clock runs out.
The Kickstarter campaign closes on September 9, 2026, so there’s only a short window left to back this little bird. As always with crowdfunding, delivery is not guaranteed. Neither is your ability to stop buying titanium things.
