ColecoVision Game Console

We are not sure if a market dominated by Microsoft Xbox and Sony Playstation will have a place for another make of game console. Regardless, that haven’t stop rebooted game console maker of the 80s, Coleco, from trying for a piece of the game console pie. Come 2016, it will be re-entering the game console market with a brand new machine called Coleco Chameleon that sticks true to its retro status by going the cartridge way. Yup. No HD-DVD nor will there be Blu-ray; it is just the good’ol cartridge that once dominated the game consoles of the 80s.

It may seem like an uphill task taking on the giants, but Coleco is cashing in on the appeal of retro-style 2D titles that don’t seems to let up even in the smartphone and Steam era. This comeback hero will be serving up 8-bit, 16-bit and 32-bit games from the past, as well as new games developed with similar graphics. Why? Lets face it, despite the availability of games with hyper-realistic graphics and overly complex storyline, we are never tired of the simplicity of games like Metal Slug and Space Invaders, though granted those are not titles of Coleco, but I think you get the idea.

As for the price, nothing has been announced and aesthetic-wise, it is just a render of the would-be console for now. But for retro gaming fans, do look out for it as the game console is reportedly heading to the New York Toy Fair in February 2016.
