Good news for model kit builders who adore movie cars because there is going to be another Knight Rider K.I.T.T. plastic model kit from Aoshima. The Aoshima 1/24 Knight Rider K.I.T.T. Season 1 Model Kit, as it is called, is part of the brand’s Movie Mecha Series (no. KR-06).
As the product name suggests, the Aoshima 1/24 Knight Rider K.I.T.T. Season 1 Model Kit is based on the star AI car as seen in Knight Rider Season 1. Wait a minute. Didn’t we have this exact same model kit a while back? Well, yes and no. Yes. There was a kit based on Knight Rider S1 a while ago and no, this is a new kit.
It boasts a new scanner unit, featuring 8 LEDs to reproduce the running red light on the hood of K.I.T.T. In addition, the new electronics now has voice playback, featuring the voice of Akio Nojima-san who voiced K.I.T.T. in the Japanese dubbed version. All told, there are five sound effects/dialogs pulled from Season 1, including a 14-second K.I.T.T. self-introduction and the oh-so-familiar scanner sound.
A wired control box with two buttons (pictured above) lets you activate the light and voice features. Though I must say it is not the neatest setup.
The model kit further features details like 6 fog lamps with louvers, a detailed high-tech dashboard, and a roof-mounted console as seen in early K.I.T.T. car in season 1. True to the 82’ Pontiac Trans Am which it was based on, this model kit has working pop-up headlights (though not lighted) and it has a removable roof too, thus allowing you to admire the high-tech interior.
The Aoshima 1/24 Knight Rider K.I.T.T. Season 1 Model Kit will be released in June 2023 for 5,940 yen (or about US$45).
