ASUS has just revealed the new ROG Phone, the ROG Phone 7 Series in a virtual launch event. As expected of a flagship gaming smartphone, the new ASUS ROG Phone 7 Series is powered by Snapdragon 8 Gen 1 Mobile Platform, with up to 16 GB LPDDR5X RAM, 512 GB UFS 4.0 ROM, and features an upgraded GameCool 7 thermal system and a 165 Hz Samsung AMOLED display.
Aesthetically, the new ROG Phone 7 looks pretty much like the ROG Phone 6 which in turn carried the design over from the ROG Phone 5. The 6.78” display retains the notch-less design with a slightly thicker forehead and chin to accommodate a 32 MP selfie camera and symmetrical dual front-facing speakers.
The latter is said to offer 50% increased effective volume with 3D encapsulation technology. Not that serious gamers would game without a headset but they are there if want to take advantage of it. If the onboard sound isn’t cutting it for you, ASUS also revealed the AeroActive Cooler 7 which features a new built-in subwoofer for powerful 2.1-channel sound.
Continuing on the imaging, it has a triple camera setup comprising a 50 MP main camera with a Sony IMX766 sensor, a 13 MP 120° ultrawide angle lens camera, and a 5 MP macro camera.
ASUS said the new Phone 7 series features advanced CPU tuning “and thermal design” to stake a claim as 2023’s most powerful and energy-efficient gaming phone.
Other key spec sheet details include Corning Gorilla Glass Victus, supports Always-On HDR display, support HDR10, glove touch supported, a 6,000 mAh battery with 65 W HyperCharge power brick, customizable RGB lighting, in-display fingerprint sensor, face recognition, ultrasonic sensors for AirTrigger 5 and grip press, Wi-Fi 7-ready (802.11be) with Qualcomm FastConnect 7800, Tri-band wireless (2.4 + 5 + 6 GHz), Bluetooth 5.3, GPS, 2x Type-C port (1x USB 3.1 gen2 + 1x USB 2.0), a 3.5 mm headphone jack, and IP54 rating.
Two models are being offered: ROG Phone 7 and ROG Phone 7 Ultimate. The difference between the two is that the latter gets ROG Vision, which is the tiny display around the back.
Pre-orders for the ROG Phone 7 are open for Taiwan, Hong Kong, and Europe. Prices start at €999 (US$1,104) for the ROG Phone 7 and €1,399 (US$1,547) for the Ultimate model.
No words on the U.S. availability and pricing yet.
