these days, tech-heavy automobiles need not to wait till major auto shows to make their debut. you know why? because geeks love cars too – especially those rides that speaks high tech all over it, like this Audi Sport Quattro Laserlight Concept Car which will be rolling into the 2014 International CES next week. billed as a “fascinating technology concept car”, the Audi Sport Quattro Laserlight Concept Car really is the Sport Quattro Concept which surfaced at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September last year with only one key difference: laser headlights. image-wise, you can’t really tell the difference. the forward illumination is still the dual headlights setup, but now, the matrix LED combines with laser light technologies to lit the way.

the setup consists of two low-profile trapezoidal elements with the outer one being the matrix LED for low beams, and the inner element would be the laser light for high-beam illumination. by size, the laser diodes are significantly smaller than LED diodes, but is capable of lighting up half a kilometer ahead, which is twice the lighting range btw, while having three times the luminosity of LED high beam lights. apart from the laser lighting technology, the rest car remains unchanged from what we have read last September with the same hybrid drivetrain providing 515 kW (700 hp) of grunt with 2.5L/100 km (94.09 US mpg) of fuel economy. this particular example will be dressed in Plasma Red and has a dark gray interior for what we thought as visual cues of this is actually a different concept vehicle. more look after the break.
