Casio EDIFICE, which is synonymous with motorsports, has partnered with Honda tuner MUGEN for a special edition watch to celebrate MUGEN’s 50th anniversary this year. This first-ever collab between MUGEN and EDIFICE is based on the EDIFICE SOSPENSIONE timepiece and features a predominantly black finish timepiece interjected by MUGEN corporate colors of white, red, and gold.
The three stripes across the black dial, the tip of the hour and minute hands, the red zone of the sub-dial, the color on the indexes, and on the bezel together make the face design instantly recognizable as MUGEN. Well, that’s the Mugen logo at 3 o’clock hasn’t already made that announcement.
There is a couple of subtle touches that link this timepiece to MUGEN and motorsports. The numbers engraved on the bezel are in the same font as on the MUGEN shift knob, and they were engraved based on the actual font data provided by Mugen. In addition, the lower half of the dial and the sub-dial has a textured design that recalls the surface of the tarmac.
Moreover, the “four-legged lugs” on the carbon fiber reinforced resin case serve as a nod to the suspension of racing cars while Alcantara, a material used extensively in the interior of sports cars, is used to make the watch band.
Speaking of the watch band, it has two keepers, one in the colors of Mugen, and a chrome keeper with MUGEN branding and MUGEN POWER engraved on it. The band itself has stitching in Mugen colors, alongside the regular grey stitches, as well as stitched MUGEN branding along with a stitched graphic of the eye power logo.
As far as watch functionality goes, the Casio EDIFICE SOSPENSIONE ECB-40MU MUGEN Edition features mobile function via Bluetooth which ensures accurate time whenever you are in the world.
Other watch features include sapphire glass, black IP bezel, 10 ATM water resistant, replaceable battery with around 2 years battery life, 12/24 hour display, world time, 5 alarms, airplane mode, double LED (LED light for dial plus LED backlight for LCD), stopwatch data transfer, schedule timer, find your smartphone function and more.
The Casio EDIFICE SOSPENSIONE ECB-40MU Mugen Edition is available starting today in Japan for 44,000 yen (around US$306 based on today’s going rate).
