Apple seems to think we can do without an optical drive, well… at least most of the time. hence, optical drive was omitted in MacBook Air to achieve a sleek, thin form factor. i know most of us seldom use the optical drive but it is of those item in life that is good to have, if possible. with that in perspective, DELL has a ‘in between’ solution: the XPS 14z Laptop. a laptop that snags the title of being the world’s thinnest fully featured laptop with a built-in DVD drive. at 0.97-inch thin, it is just 0.29-inch thicker than the MacBook Air but with the added advantage of having an optical drive and a larger screen estate (let’s not dwell into the OS for now). quite an achievement, considering it is a larger 14-inch laptop. the base model specs includes the second generation Intel Core i5 processor, 6GB RAM (shared), Intel HD Graphics 3000, CD/DVD burner, a edge-to-edge 14-inch 720p WLED display with slim bezel, a 1.3-megapixels webcam, and among the many others. needless to say, it is preloaded with genuine Windows 7 Home Premium (64-bit) operating system. the DELL XPS 14z is now available with starting price of $999.99 for the base model without any upgrades. check out a few more look after the break.
