There was a time when filming something “properly” meant carrying a camera bag, a tripod, maybe a second tripod just in case, and at least one emotional support battery. DJI looked at all that and decided the better solution was to make the camera smaller than your TV remote and somehow more capable than your old mirrorless setup.
Meet the DJI Osmo Pocket 4 [CH], the latest reminder that stabilization, slow motion, and cinematic ambition can now live inside something you can forget in your jacket pocket.
The signature three-axis mechanical gimbal is still the reason this thing exists in the first place. Tap power and the camera snaps upright instantly, ready to shoot before you even finish deciding whether the moment was worth recording. It remains one of the few cameras that actively rewards impatience.
This generation improves subject tracking and touchscreen control, which matters more than spec sheets suggest. When a camera is designed to be used mid-walk, mid-turn, or mid-“wait, that looked interesting,” speed of control is the feature.
It also continues working cleanly with DJI’s wireless ecosystem, so adding audio or remote operation does not suddenly turn a pocket camera into a small engineering project. That part alone keeps the Pocket line practical instead of gimmicky.
At this point, the Osmo Pocket 4 is what you reach for when bringing a “real camera” feels unnecessary—and then realize afterward you never actually missed it. I guess it is pretty much the same with smartphones, except that the new Pocket takes it to the next level, you know, kind of like an in-between a full set of rigs, and well, a smartphone.
Not surprisingly, it has not been announced for the US yet. However, it has been announced in its home country, China, with a starting price of 2,999 yuan [CH], and in countries like the U.K., with a starting price of £445.
